CityCamp Assens Strand is Denmark's newest 6-star campground
CityCamp Assens Strand has been awarded six stars—the highest rating in Camping Outdoor Denmark’s official classification of Danish campgrounds.
This means we are not only Denmark’s newest 6-star campground. We are also one of only two campgrounds in the entire country to have earned all six stars.
For us, the stars are a recognition of the hard work our team puts in every day to create a modern, high-quality campground with excellent facilities and space for relaxation, play, and new experiences.

What does a six-star camping rating mean?
Camping stars cannot be directly compared to hotel stars. The classification system was developed specifically for campgrounds and evaluates the overall experience that guests have at the campground.
CityCamp Assens Strand is rated six stars in the “Classic Camping” category. It offers a traditional camping vacation with your own tent, trailer, or RV—combined with modern amenities, activities, and a high level of comfort.
Six stars is the maximum rating a campground can receive.
The classification is based on a physical inspection and an overall assessment of both measurable factors and perceived quality. A total of 102 checkpoints are included, divided into six main areas:
- Sanitary Facilities and Interior Design
- Camping Sites and Other Facilities at the Campground
- Shopping and Dining Options
- Activities and Recreational Facilities
- Swimming and Water Activities
- Sustainability
The restroom facilities and the campground’s layout itself carry significant weight. But a six-star rating requires a very high standard across the entire guest experience—from the practical details to the experiences and surroundings that help make the vacation special.

You’ll be staying right on the beach and by the marina, with a view of the Little Belt—and the town of Assens is just a few minutes’ walk from the campground. There, you’ll find shops, cafes, restaurants, cultural attractions, events, and charming town settings.
We don’t want to be a closed-off resort town. We see Assens as a natural part of the camping experience. That’s why you can easily combine life at the campground with local culinary experiences, shopping, culture, and excursions into the West Funen countryside.

Quality You Can Feel
A 6-star rating isn’t something you receive just once. Campgrounds with four stars or more are re-rated every year.
This means that quality must be continuously maintained and documented. For us, therefore, the stars are not an end in themselves, but a motivation to continue our development.

In addition to its six-star rating, CityCamp Assens Strand has earned Camping Outdoor Denmark’s GREENSTAY certification.
GREENSTAY is an eco-label program for campgrounds based on five of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The certification highlights the campground’s efforts to promote environmental and climate sustainability.
